10 Comics That Took Their Characters To New Heights In 2017

8. Iceman

Black Panther Storm
Marvel Comics

Through a somewhat complicated journey of self-discovery - “self” in this case meaning by talking with a time-displaced version of his younger self - it emerged in 2015 that the X-Men’s Iceman was in fact homosexual.

Last year saw Bobby Drake receive his first solo series, and it wasn’t until this 2017 run that we really witnessed the previously closeted Iceman accept himself as both a mutant and as a gay man.

Sina Grace was the writer steering this since-cancelled ship, and while Iceman won’t be getting any new solo adventures anytime soon - as of early 2018 - his limited 2017 run was a voyage of worthwhile discovery.

Not only was Bobby’s sexuality a major talking point, but his path to further grasping his Omega level powers (he’s a pretty heavy hitter now, for anyone who’s been out of the X-loop) is likely to have earned the frosted fancy a heap of new fans.
