Sometimes, it's easy to forget that the main purpose of comics is to be fun. With gritty realistic dramas and heartbreaking backstories being so common in the comic world, comedy is often thrown to the wayside. This isn't helped by the stereotype of funny comics, as many consider them either childish or simply uninteresting because they're 'not real stories'.

This is why comics like The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl are must-reads for people who are inundated with dark comics, as they can affectionately mock all the things that regular series can't joke about in the same way. While series like Deadpool and the Great Lakes Avengers also manage this, Squirrel Girl beats them by sheer lieu of having the titular character defeat countless insanely strong villains, such as the likes of Galactus and Thanos.

Now, for die-hard comic book fans, this can be irritating, as Squirrel Girl does take out folk who by all means she shouldn't be able to. For those who are less precious about these kinds of things, however, it's literal comic gold, and a solid reminder that comics don't always have to take themselves seriously.

I like my comics like I like my coffee - in huge, unquestionably unhealthy doses.
