10 Comics Villains Who Had The Best Debuts

5. Green Goblin

Convincing B.J Cosmos that he can deliver Spider-Man to star in a movie featuring himself and the Enforcers, to say that the Green Goblin's first steps into Spider-Lore were 'out there', would be putting things lightly. But what else would you expect from Stan Lee and Steve Ditko?

The fact that he manages to talk Peter Parker into it, for the princely sum of $50,000, tells you all you need to know about the debut of the broom flying menace and how crazy the Silver Age of Comics really was.

Wackier than a flange of circus clowns on P.C.P, The Amazing Spider-Man #14 not only sees Spider-Man battle ol' Greeny and his sidekicks, but also duke it out with the Hulk after they accidentally stumble upon his secret lair out in the desert. Marvel really doubled down on this issue, trying to set the bar as high as possible by including Banner's alter-ego in an attempt to give their readers a true "Oh my God" moment.

And it obviously works, as the Goblin is still a fixture of the Web-Head's world, no matter who now wears the mask, but it's this insane debut that still stands out over half a century later.
