10 Controversial Comic Book Retcons Fans Hated

Amazing Spider-Man 545 One More Day

After the events of Flashpoint, the event in which Barry Allen changed the timeline to save his mother, the Flash returned to a timeline in which the classic, post-Crisis version of DC continuity was pretty much erased. This meant that everything was completely different for fans; Wally West was still a child with no powers, Superman was dating Wonder Woman, the Justice League of America didn't exist, and so on and so forth. This reboot was quickly regarded with contempt by fans, who wasted no time at all to bombard the writers with criticism for their choices.

What made it worse, however, was the fact that most stories were just rehashes of past stories, and due to editorial oversight, a lot of them were also crossovers between books - a money-making trope many fans still take issue with even now.

A lot of good stories did come out of the event, like 'Multiversity' or 'Forever Evil', and DC did see a large increase in sales as a result. Marvel was also spurred to start their very own rebrand, known as 'Marvel NOW!', and was actually quite successful with not only sales, but with critics.
