10 Coolest And Weirdest Alternate Versions Of Batman

8. The Batman Who Laughs

Batman Grim Knight
DC Comics

The Batman Who Laughs is from Earth 22 of the Dark Multiverse, and first appears in Dark Days: The Casting (2017). This story is a prelude to Dark Nights: Metal, featuring not just The Batman Who Laughs, but a vast array of other alternate Batmen, including a Doomsday Batman.

The origin of the Batman Who Laughs takes place thusly: the Joker torments Batman with a relentless display of sadistic horrors, designed to bait the caped crusader into killing him; a form of theatrical torture similar to that inflicted upon Jim Gordon in The Killing Joke.

The Joker succeeds, and Batman breaks his neck. Upon so doing, gas leaks out from within the dead clown’s body, and infects Bruce with the Joker's hellish proclivities, as if his soul seeks refuge in the bat's body.

Bruce becomes the new Joker, summoning Robin and the rest of his bat crew for a meeting in which he machine-guns them all to death. He then goes on to murder every Justice League member but Superman, for whom he has devised something far more cruel.
