10 Coolest And Weirdest Alternate Versions Of Batman
5. Gotham By Gaslight Batman
Gotham by Gaslight follows the journey of 1889’s Bruce Wayne. In this story the vigilante consults with Sigmund Freud in an attempt to decode the disturbing dreams he has about the murder of his parents. Bruce is a student of Freud, and recalls the striking image of the killer being swarmed by bats on the night of the incident.
Following this Bruce travels back to Gotham knowing a friend has been murdered there, and more murders ensue. He meets with Alfred Pennyworth and James Gordon, declining a job offer to work with James more permanently in policing.
In form typical to Batman he opts to continue with his own unconventional investigative methods, costumed in a Victorian-style Bat-suit. The killer – Jack the Ripper – is wrongfully concluded to be Bruce Wayne, so Bruce’s mission is impeded when he is imprisoned in Arkham Asylum.
Of course, Bruce is freed, and discovers the identity of the real Ripper, securing from him a confession to his crimes.
