10 Crazy Comic Books Way Better Than They Had Any Right To Be

4. Superior Spider-Man

Superior Spider Man
Marvel Comics

When Dan Slott decided to "kill" Peter Parker and have his body inhabited by Doctor Octopus, the levels of fan rage were over nine thousand. For months there was no escaping the storm of indignation and anger over the idea of making Otto Octavius the new Spider-Man.

Yet, something very unexpected happened, and it is a thing that frankly doesn't often happen with these kinds of controversial story choices (Cough, cough, hail Hydra). The surprising thing? The story arc turned out to be fantastic. Doc Ock even managed to become a likeable antihero, all while wearing Peter Parker's stolen skin!

The attempts of Octavius to become both a superior Spider-Man and a superior Peter Parker had a lasting impact and pushed the series kicking and screaming into a new frontier of character development.

By the time Superior Spider-Man came to its ultimate conclusion, fans had done a complete three hundred and sixty degree turn.

No longer were they screaming in protest of a story nobody asked for, but instead they were screaming for more of the story they didn't know they wanted. In true Marvel fashion, because we demanded it they found a way to bring back Superior Spider-Man for another volume set in a parallel universe.
