10 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy DC Comics
5. Every Future Is Terrible
The future for DC in the real world is in almost as much peril as the future for the characters within DC Comics. Almost. The company has cornered the market in darkest timelines, with each look ahead to what the Justice League and friends have in store looking bleaker and bleaker. It was bad enough when it looked like we were heading towards the dystopian Gotham of the Dark Knight Returns, but then Kingdom Come got thrown into the melting pot - and was linked with the main continuity by the greying Superman with his "dark" costume - turning up in the present day.
Even with the New 52 reboot there was still the chance that the heroes would end up in the terrorised Blade Runner-esque Gotham City presided over by Damian Wayne as Batman, the 31st century of Justice League 3000 where humanity is under threat in a world without superheroes, or the Futures End where most heroes have been turned into evil cyborgs following a multi-dimensional war.
Phew. Whichever way you cut it, the future doesn't look bright for our heroes. Which is how they keep us reading, because we want things to turn out okay. Or at least with less robot bugs.
