10 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy DC Comics

4. Dan DiDio Rules Everything Around You

DC's current executive editor has shouldered the blame for all sorts of controversies, from the New 52 relaunch to the depiction of female characters to the countless shuffling of creative teams on books. Dan DiDio isn't the only person who makes decisions at DC - he's part of a whole editorial team, and works closely with his co-publisher Jim Lee - but he's the public face of the company and, wait, actually yeah he does seem to make every decision at DC.

Every time a writer or artist leaves due to editorial interference, they seem to be referring to DiDio. Whenever there's a big outcry over a plot twist, or a reboot, or cancellations, it's DiDio who steps forward to explain, apologise, or tell you to deal with it whilst a pixellated pair of sunglasses float down onto his face. Whilst Creative Officer Geoff Johns is technically the scribe for several of the company's big titles, DiDio is actually the main writer in the DC Universe. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing! That's how Marvel worked for years, with Stan Lee coming up with plots for most of their titles and having artists or other writers flesh them out.

DiDio holding tight to the reins of his books means, in theory, that the DC Universe should be more consistent and sensible than it's ever been before. And if you don't like it...well, there's not much you can do about it.
