10 Criminally Overlooked Characters In Comics

5. Hourman (Android)

Hellstorm Son of Satan
DC Comics

The Hourman Android was created by Grant Morrison and Harold Porter for JLA #12. An “intelligent machine colony” based on the Golden Age hero Rex Tyler, this 853rd-century creation became the apprentice to the New God Metron and was entrusted with the Worlogog, an ancient artifact that, among other things, contained a map of creation from the beginning to the end of everything.

Taking the name of “Matthew Tyler,” the android gave up most of the powers of the Worlogog and lived with former Justice League mascot “Snapper” Carr to learn to be more human. He also began adventuring with first the JLA and then helped reform the new Justice Society of America. Tyler replaced his ancestor Rex Tyler at the moment of his death at the hands of Extant so that the original Hourman could live. Rex vowed to rebuild his company to become the one in the future that would eventually build the android.

Even though he now only possesses an “Hour of Power”, the android is easily one of the more powerful beings in the DC Universe. He could make people and things younger, travel unaided through time, and move between picoseconds. That is one trillionth of a second. Only Flashes move that fast. He could also slow people down until they were frozen in time. Additionally, Tyler had the prerequisite powers of super strength, speed, and flight.
