10 DC Heroes Who Were Once Criminals
8. Booster Gold (Michael Carter)
The fame-hungry attitude that Booster Gold darns can sometimes imply a completely superficial personality- even though his backstory indicates otherwise. Michael Carter's beginnings in the 25th century initially had him starting out growing up in an impoverished family, which had often suffered from the debts acquired by Micheal's gambling father.
To improve his lot in life, Michael eventually decides to pursue a career as a professional athlete, which he saw as a promising opportunity for a wealthy existence. His efforts to achieve this goal were supplemented further by his accomplishments as an excellent American college football player.
His plans, however, would unfortunately take a sudden turn, after his mother becomes severely ill. Michael then starts to gamble on the games that he had played in, and subsequently won, in order to take home all the cash that had been been betted on his team. He would then use that money to pay for his mother's treatments. He was soon found out by school officials and law enforcement alike, however, and as a result, he was expelled from his college and arrested for gambling.
Ironically, though, had this not have happened, Michael wouldn’t have needed to work at the Metropolis Space Museum. While there, he would later commit yet another crime by stealing some historical superhero gear, and a time machine that would send him back to the 21st century.
