10 DC Heroes Who Were Once Criminals

7. Tigress (Artemis Crock)

Tigress DC Comics
DC Comics

Current continuity holds that Artemis Crock is a hero who grew out of a family with major ties to the League of Assassins. In her original comic book debut, however, Artemis was actually cast as a villain. Similar to her heroic counterpart on Young Justice, Artemis originally went by her birth name, Artemis, and then later became Tigress (which had initially been her mother's moniker).

Despite her status though, Artemis would not remain a villain forever and would have a change of heart following the death of a fellow teammate (who was killed as a part of a plot designed by the leader of the Injustice Society). She and her romantic partner, Icicle, then decide to leave the Injustice Society to act independently as a duo.

Even though they decide to go solo, the two would have to later reconsider their villainous motivations once again, after Artemis becomes pregnant. Icicle himself becomes very preoccupied with the pregnancy, due to his worry that Artemis would die in childbirth just as his own mother with him. Under these circumstances, Artemis and Icicle would decide to forgo their villainous intentions in favor of teaming up with the JSA to find a magical staff, that could help Artemis safely give birth to their metahuman child.

Although they do not succeed in obtaining the staff, the JSA nevertheless vouches on their behalf, after they had sought out professional assistance for their pregnancy. With this taken care of, Artemis can thus safely give birth. Later on, the new parents would finally then retire to raise their daughter within a stable environment.
