10 Devastating Comic Book Deaths That Came Out Of Nowhere

9. Logan's Family - Wolverine Vol. 3 #72 (2009)

Spider-Man Death
Marvel Comics

Old Man Logan takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, with our titular hero and his family trying their best to get by. Living under the brutal rule of his landlords, The Hulk Gang, Logan puts up with vicious beatings any time he's late with his rent. When the Hulks tell Logan they'll kill his family if he doesn't pay next month's rent, the old Canucklehead accepts a dangerous (but highly lucrative) job from Hawkeye.

After Logan completes the mission and receives his reward, he realises he's nearly 3,000 miles from home. Desperate to get back to his family before his deadline, he steals an Iron Man Armour, and flies from Washington, DC to Sacramento. The armour runs out of fuel before Logan reaches his destination, forcing him to drudge through the boiling desert for 36 hours straight.

When the former X-Man reaches his house, his neighbour Donovan alerts him the Hulks already killed his family. When Wolverine points out he got back in time, Donovan said the Hulks didn't care since "they got bored". Although it was awful to learn Logan's family was murdered, the fact that their demise was so utterly meaningless made it much more heartwrenching.
