10 Different Ways Batman Has Been Defeated

9. Shot In The Chest By A Cop

Batman Dark Victory Shot
DC Comics

Not that it always takes a worthy adversary of the highest calibre to take down the Bat. Sometimes he just has an off day. Sometimes, as is the case in Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale's Dark Victory, he comes up against a police sniper who doesn't actually miss for once.

Obviously it helps to be equally as prepared for battle as Batman himself, as was the case with Bronze Tiger, but it can be equally as prudent to seize an opportunity when given it. So when Sergeant Branden of the Gotham City PD's SWAT team sees a shot, he takes it.

Branden gets a clean shot right at Batman's chest, like that insignia was a target. Obviously the Dark Knight had body armour on underneath, but he was more or less incapacitated, and would've been toast had the villainous Hangman not shown up to kill Branden before he could finish the job.
