10 Doctor Strange Fates Worse Than Death

7. Being Trapped On The Astral Plane

One of the best tricks in Doctor Strange's bag is his ability to separate his consciousness from his body and enter the Astral Plane. This has made it possible for him to do everything from spy on an enemy to check on an ally, but there are far more uses than just that.

The things about Astral Projection that make it such an effective tool don't necessarily outweigh the risks in using it. Sure, you can jump out of your body and fly about the universe, gathering intelligence or influencing others, but it's meant to be temporary, and you don't want to get stuck that way.

While the obvious concern of leaving his body behind does have its risks, the real worry with astral projection is failing to return to that body (or having it destroyed) before 24 hours are up. If Dr. Strange remains in his Astral form for 24 hours and one second, he can never return to his corporeal form.

Granted, that hasn't happened to him, but if it did, it would surely be a fate worse than death. As an astral projection, he would forever be trapped in a state between life and death without the ability to ever interact with the world again. Eventually, he'd fade into nothingness, but that wouldn't happen for a long time.
