10 Embarrassing Supervillains Marvel Wants You To Forget

Another of Spider-Man's foes whose identity is based on that of an animal is Maxwell Markham, otherwise known as Grizzly. Markham started life as a professional wrestler whose violent tendencies saw him removed from competition.

A decade after being expelled from the sport, he met up with the Jackal who outfitted him with a grizzly bear suit fitted with an exoskeleton capable of enhancing his strength and durability.

As Grizzly, he raided the Daily Bugle in an attempt to gain revenge on J. Jonah Jameson for exposing him and ruining his career, but he ended up getting whooped by Spider-Man. He went to prison and got out (as these villains tend to do) and met up with the tinkerer, who upgraded his suit.

He eventually went after Spider-Man again, but ended up capturing him and letting him go. He eventually joined forces with the web-head to capture Kangaroo and tried out being a good guy for a while. Ultimately, a supervillain wearing a big bear suit wasn't the best use of Spider-Man's time and he fell to the sidelines of various stories and crossover events.
