10 Epic Comic Book Fights With Underwhelming Endings

7. Spider-Man Vs Carnage - Maximum Carnage #1-14 (1993)

Catwoman Vs 3 Flashes
Marvel Comics

After serial killer, Cletus Kasady, bonded with the spawn of Venom, he turned into one of Spider-Man's most menacing foes, Carnage. Because Carnage was instantly popular, it was no surprise when he received his own title event the following year, Maximum Carnage.

The story revolved around Spidey assembling an ad-hoc team to stop the alien-powered psychopath, so it was only understandable when fans started to get super-hyped.

And the 14-part mini-series would've been awesome... if it knew when to end. Throughout Maximum Carnage, Spider-Man tangled with Carnage EIGHT FRICKIN' TIMES. (And that doesn't include all the other heroes who had separate scuffles with the titular villain.) What's more frustrating is that Carnage was defeated in issue #8, #9, and #13, meaning that the series could've wrapped up three times, but didn't.

It's awesome to see a dozen heroes battle Carnage at first but once you see pretty much the same battle for the sixth time, it feels like a slog. None of the fights are bad but considering the story boils down to 'Spider-Man fights Carnage,' there's no reason why Maximum Carnage should've been as long as it was.
