10 Epic Comic Book Fights With Underwhelming Endings

6. Captain America VS Red Skull - Captain America #297-300 (1984)

Catwoman Vs 3 Flashes
Marvel Comics

Despite the fact Captain America and the Red Skull were born at the turn of the 20th century, they maintained their youthful appearances due to spending years in suspended animation. But after the effects of the suspended animation wore off, the two of them rapidly aged until they had the bodies of 80-year-old men.

Believing that he wasn't long for this world, Red Skull vowed to defeat the star-spangled superhero once and for all. After injecting himself and Cap with a lethal poison with no antidote, Red Skull challenged his arch-nemesis to a death match in Captain America #300.

The comics leading up to this showdown highlighted the most defining moments in both characters' lives such as Red Skull's childhood and Bucky's apparent death, hyping the pair's rivalry even more.

Even though this battle was built up tremendously, it was a let down since... there’s nothing particularly epic about two octogenarians beating the crap out of each other. Although the brawl concluded with Skull's death, he was cloned back to life a few years later, making this fight all the more pointless and anticlimactic.
