10 Epic Comic Book Fights With Underwhelming Endings

5. Wolverine Vs Magneto - Ultimatum #5 (2009)

Catwoman Vs 3 Flashes
Marvel Comics

Jeph Loeb's Ultimatum begins with Magneto declaring war on all of humanity. After decimating New York with a flood, freezing Latveria, and blowing up most of London, it was clear the Master of Magnetism meant business.

Now, it's common knowledge between comic fans that Ultimatum is one of the most loathed Marvel series ever due to its excessive gore, blatant plotholes, and the fact that it brutally killed off dozens of iconic characters. But because of the premise, the least you would expect is a kick-ass fight at the end, right?

Sadly, Ultimatum couldn't even do that. After the Avengers and the X-Men cornered Magneto on Asteroid M, Mags used his powers to take control of Iron Man's armour and Cyclops' visor, compelling them to blast Wolverine to death. Even though this was meant to be a heart-wrenching moment, it didn't make any sense. Magneto can control metal, not electronics, so how could he operate Iron Man's arsenal? Also, when he activated Cyclops' visor, why didn't Cyke close his eyes!?

Immediately after Wolverine kicked the bucket, Magneto gave up and asked Cyclops to put him out of his misery, bringing the X-Men's feud with their greatest enemy to an anticlimactic end.
