10 Exact Moments That Made Batman Fans Rage Quit

6. When Batman Gave Up On Being Bruce Wayne

Batman Catwoman Ending
DC Comics

Over the years, numerous superheroes have given up their costumes to return to a normal life. It happened to Peter Parker, and many others have followed suit. Even the Dark Knight gets sick of protecting Gotham every so often, but one story saw him do the opposite.

This came about in the early 2000s when Bruce Wayne was being protected by a bodyguard named Sasha Bordeaux. Since he couldn't do his real job with her tagging along all the time, he let her in on his secret and began training her as a superhero. During one training session, his ex-girlfriend, Vesper Fairchild, was killed, and all the evidence pointed to Bruce Wayne.

Since his alibi of "being Batman" wouldn't work, he and Sasha went to jail, but he had no plan on staying there. Batman breaks himself out of prison and decides to simply stop being Bruce Wayne. He did the opposite of what other heroes had done by giving up his life for his role as a hero.

When he did this, his friends confronted him, and he reacted like an impudent child. He ignored their questions, and when Nightwing pushed him on the issue, he punched him, but the one thing he didn't do was deny the murder. The whole thing was out of character, and it made Batman seem less like a hero and more like a stubborn kid.
