10 Famous Comics You Won't Believe Were Cancelled

9. Static Shock

X Men By Marcio Takara
DC Comics

Given Static Shock was such a popular cartoon, it may shock readers to learn he's only enjoyed sporadic success in the comics themselves. There was the original Milestone series, written by the late, great Dwayne McDuffie, as well as a follow-up published by DC around the same time the cartoon aired.

Unfortunately, the shocking superhero was benched afterwards. But when news of Virgil Hawkins appearing in the New 52 reached readers, fans felt as though Static's days out of the spotlight were long behind him.

But due to a squabble between the creative team, the series ended after less than a year. According to writer John Rozum, editor Harvey Richards and artist Scott McDaniel took over the project, leaving him sidelined.

Not liking the direction they took the character, Rozum walked away after four issues. When McDaniel took over as the head-writer, the quality in storytelling dwindled dramatically, causing the title to be cancelled four issues later.

Because McDaniel and Richards refute these claims, it's hard to say for certain what really happened. Nevertheless, it's obvious the comic failed because of creative differences rather than because of a lack of potential. Static is a famous and beloved hero, and that should be duly reflected in the comics.
