10 Fascinating Comic Moments That Almost Happened

1. Alan Moore Almost Wrote A Huge DC Event

While working for DC, Alan Moore wrote some of the most classic and influential comics ever made, including Watchmen and Swamp Thing. However, constant disputes over creator rights caused Moore to eventually sever ties with the company. This meant that even more of his ideas never came to fruition, including his epic crossover events Twilight of the Superheroes.

In an idea that coincidentally just so happens to resemble the plot of the later story 'Armageddon 2001', TotS was about future versions of John Constantine and Rip Hunter travelling back in time to prevent a disaster and warning heroes of potential futures by appearing in their series.

The Twilight of the Gods miniseries itself would have featured the future Constantine telling his younger self about the future he came from. In that future, the dynastic Houses of Steel (run by Superman and Wonder Woman) and Thunder (run by Captain Marvel) were about to be united in marriage. They were opposed though by Batman and his cabal of pulp-fiction heroes, who worried that the two Houses together would be too powerful for the world to handle.

It would have been a much darker take on DC's heroes than had come before and had the potential to be Moore's magnum opus, completely reinventing the DC Universe.
