10 Freaky Yet Awesome X-Men You Probably Forgot

2. Magik

First Appearance: New Mutants #14 - 1984 Despite the inherent awesomeness of mutant powers, some lucky mutants still end up gaining even more power by luck. Or in this case, by demonic corruption. Illyana Rasputin - sister of veteran X-Man Piotr Rasputin aka Colossus - was one of the founding member of the New Mutants branch of Xavier's School For The Gifted. Her power doesn't sound all that freaky at first: she creates "stepping portals" that allow her to transport herself and others across time and space. Where does she pass through in order for this to work? Limbo, which is Marvel's stand in for Hell. That's right, Hell exists in the Marvel Universe. Checkmate, atheists. As if that wasn't terrifying enough, one of Limbo's demon-lords kidnapped, abused, and brainwashed her at six-years-old. Makes being called a 'mutie' not sound so bad. After seven relative years in Limbo, Ilyana returned to the Xavier's School as a well-meaning but disturbed child who was more of a butcher than a superhero. Nevertheless, the mystic powers she learned made her invaluable to the New Mutants and the X-Men. She could perform several spells, such as summoning a magic sword and armour, giving her an edge against the inevitable demons and wizards the youths often faced. Granted, many of the demons attacked because of Ilyana's presence, but at least she cleaned up her messes.
