It's a sort of deconstructionist tale, set in a future where Superman and his generation of heroes are replaced by a new generation of heroes who care more about their egos than the people they protect. When Superman returns and tries to rain in these new heroes a superhuman war begins.
The cover sees an aged Superman go against Shazam. Seeing Zachary Levi’s Shazam and Henry Cavill’s Superman go against each other would be equally epic and heartbreaking, especially given how much young Billy Batson and Freddy Freeman looked up to him in the 2019 film.
We have already seen the Superman and Batman costume design from the comic in the CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. These were highlights from the TV event.
Again, this can work around casting issues that come when you try and bring characters back, as the story could act as a fitting ending for major characters such as Superman and Batman.
Mercifully, it does so while offering a lesson for new heroes, allowing them to take over the spotlight of the DCEU. Superman could go out with a bang to either not to return to the DCEU or focus on earlier prequel adventures.
