3. Hulk (Bruce Banner)
When you get Hulk, you also get Bruce Banner. There's no separating one from the other, and that's a good thing. Both characters have made massive contributions to the Avengers over the years, whether as a hero, a threat, or even a reluctant ally - so versatile is their role.
Like Thor, the journey Hulk's undertaken since his introduction can perhaps best be seen through the Avengers comics.
