Frank Castle already gained a negative outlook on the world when he was in the military, but on the fateful day that his entire family was slaughtered in front of him, he lost all traces of humanity that was still inside him.
Though the Punisher doesn't kill or injure the innocent, he has certainly come to despise them. Whether its because they allow the evil and corrupt to take power, stand by and let good people die or be hurt by evil ones, or simply because they are so unaware of the filth that has taken over their cities, the Punisher has become fully separated from normal citizens and even other superheroes in his hatred of humans.
This total disassociation can be seen best in the Marvel event Civil War. The first one. In it, Captain America went underground with several heroes to battle against Iron Man's loyalist group of heroes trying to get heroes to register with the government and reveal their secret identities to the world.
Cap was running out of soldiers and recruited some C-list villains to assist his side, but The Punisher killed those villains on sight, believing that if someone turns evil they cannot be forgiven for the crimes they commit and the innocent lives they take.
This forced Cap to toss The Punisher out of their resistance and turned Frank into a lone wanderer who felt justified in his violent and unforgiving actions.
