10 Greatest Comic Book Villains With ZERO Superpowers

4. William Stryker

Mysterio Spider-Man
Marvel Comics

For long as the X-Men could remember, mutants have been feared for being different. Because people with an active X-gene are seen as the next step in evolution, bigots feel like they're being replaced, encouraging them to lash out at heroes like the X-Men.

But in the classic 1982 story, God Loves, Man Kills, Reverend William Stryker attacked mutants from a different angle - religion. When Stryker saw his own son was born with horns, he regarded his child was an abomination against God. Over time, Stryker convinced himself this moment was a sign that he was chosen by the Almighty himself to cleanse the world of mutants.

Instead of fighting the X-Men with Sentinels or armies, Stryker used dogmatic ideology so millions of his followers believed it was their given right to purify the world of mutants to appease the Lord.

Stryker may have died years ago but his rhetoric continues to poison the planet. In 2008's X-Force #3, it was confirmed that Stryker's direct actions led to the murder of at least 414 mutants. Despite being dead, Stryker proves to be among the X-Men's most dangerous foes.
