10 Greatest DC Comics Of The 21st Century, Not Starring Batman
1. DC: The New Frontier
DC: The New Frontier isn't just one of the best comic books of the 21st century, it's one of the greatest comics to ever be published. The comic came out in 2004 as a 6-issue limited series to act as the story that bridged the Golden Age of comics with the Silver Age.
Written and drawn by the late Darwyn Cooke, this stunning book transcends the medium of comic art. Cooke took influence from artists like Jack Kirby and Bruce Timm to create the distinct look for this comic. It has a classic look for the characters to reflect the time period in which the book takes place, but has a contemporary style of storytelling to make it more accessible for modern audiences.
The comic shows the formation of the Justice League to defeat an otherworldly force. It also features some of John F. Kennedy's New Frontier speech which it uses to help leave the reader with a feeling of renewed hope and optimism. Reading this comic is a reminder why comics exist in the first place.
