10 Greatest DC Comics Of The 21st Century, Not Starring Batman

2. All-Star Superman

Superman Red Son
DC Comics

All-Star Superman is the definitive Superman story. Written by Grant Morrison, this comic was a 12 issue stand-alone that told a Superman story that was out of continuity.

This story is all about getting to the core of Superman, why he works and why this character is timeless. Morrison has a clear respect for the character and his legacy. The book leaves the reader inspired with hope by the time the story comes to its close.

The art by Frank Quitely and the inks and colors by Jamie Grant beautifully compliment each other. The entire book looks vibrant and is simply gorgeous. Morrison and Quitely were coming off of their long run of New X-Men when this book came out, and their collaboration shines throughout.

Superman is often dismissed too quickly in the modern world for being boring or overpowered, but this book shows how important the Man of Steel continues to be.
