10 Greatest Marvel Comics Of The 21st Century
3. Planet Hulk (2006)
The Hulk has a long history of rampaging through cities and leaving a swath of destruction behind him. Without his consent, he is rocketed into space where he's supposed to land on a planet that would be idyllic for him to live out his days. But of course things don't go as planned and the Hulk lands on a planet where he's forced into gladiatorial combat.
Written by Greg Pak, this story is typically considered to not just be the best recent Hulk story, but the best Hulk story of all time. The way the story escalates is epic and very cinematic. It builds a rich new world in the tapestry of the Marvel Universe that is completely accessible for new readers. Planet Hulk transcends what other Hulk books have done before or since and it comes off as Pak's magnum opus.
The Hulk can be written in many different ways, he may be a chaotic brute, a Las Vegas enforcer in an oversized suit, or a hyper intelligent villain. Planet Hulk takes him in the direction of being a reluctant hero that has to transform himself from being subjected as a slave to becoming a beloved King.
