10 Greatest Spider-Man Writers Not Named Stan Lee Or Steve Ditko
3. Dan Slott
Perhaps one of the most polarizing Spider-Man creators on this list, since taking over as sole writer on Amazing Spider-Man in 2010, Dan Slott has cemented his status as one of the all-time greats to ever work on the character. Slott, who describes himself as one of the worlds biggest Spider-man fans, has demonstrated an uncanny ability to craft stories with the big picture in mind. He has established a continuity where every moment counts, and his stories routinely pay off events and occurrences from years earlier. And Slott manages to do all this while producing grand, operatic stories such as Spider Island and Big Time. But the reason Slott may be a controversial choice for this list is his role in creating the Superior Spider-Man a series that saw Spideys greatest enemy, Doctor Octopus, kill Peter Parker and take over his mind and body in order to masquerade around New York City as a hero. Some fans were outraged by this new status quo, and yet the bold and daring storyline shift returned Spider-Man to the top of the sales charts, while also earning critical acclaim. With Superior Spider-Man having ended in April, Slott is back to writing Peter and Amazing Spider-Man again. The iconic series has picked back up with a hitch, and Slott is even getting an opportunity to fill in some of the gaps of Spideys famous origin story in his Learning to Crawl miniseries. At the rate he is going, Slott might one day claim ownership to one of the most prodigious creative runs in the characters history.
