2. The Snap - Infinity Gauntlet #1

Everyone's heard of the Infinity Gauntlet by now, but where did it all start?

The answer - this limited run from 1991.

The Infinity Gauntlet ran for six issues and served as the basis for the MCU's first major climactic event.

Thanos, the Mad Titan, acquires all six Infinity Gems and places them into a special glove. With a snap of his mighty fingers, he wipes out half of all life in the universe.

Cue lots of people crying, shouting, and swearing revenge.

The Russo brothers had the unenviable task of bringing the snap to life on the big screen, but they had some help from artist George Pérez when it came to engineering the scene.

Pérez pencilled the comic scene where Thanos activates the gauntlet. In three seperate mini-panels, the villain simply puts his finger and thumb together and, with the greatest of ease, unleashes death.

The drawing is so simple, yet chilling. It captures the juxtaposition of such a mundane act and its cataclysmic consequences, as the snap looms large over the page.

Pérez was a fantastic artist who sadly passed away in 2022 at the age of 67. His legacy lives on through stellar work like this.
