One of the most enduring on-again-off-again relationships of superhero comics, Scott Summers and Jean Grey don't have the inevitability of other superhero couples, with each of them having had various other partners during their publication history.
In fact, before Jonathan Hickman's recent Dawn of X storyline, Scott and Jean had barely seen each other over the past fifteen years, being variously trapped in an alternate time or dead.
Outside of the famous pairing, Scott has most famously been tied to Emma Frost, while Jean's relationship with Wolverine was always a bone of contention for Scott, with Logan not making a secret of his infatuation for Jean, even when her and Scott were still together.
Their leadership roles in the X-Men have kept them and their relationship status at the forefront of fans' minds over the years, bringing true soap-opera drama to Xavier's mansion. However, in the previously mentioned Dawn of X reboot, Jonathan Hickman seems to have found a solution for Jean, Scott and Logan's long-standing love triangle, by portraying the three in a polyamorous relationship.
