10 Heartbreaking Moments Comic Book Characters Realised THEY Were The Villain
4. Batman - Tower Of Babel
JLA: Tower of Babel was not only one of the most shocking comics of its time but remains an influential staple of DC ever since.
The story was the first to introduce the concept that Batman had developed contingency plans to defeat each member of the Justice League should they go rogue. A fact that he had kept hidden from all other members.
Not only would these methods outright incapacitate his fellow League members but some of the technology was insanely barbaric. One tactic involved coating a layer of Martian Manhunter's skin in magnesium so that he would burst into flames. Another involved using red kryptonite, a substance Batman himself invented, that made Superman's skin transparent and overloaded all of his senses at once.
These mad scientist level of experiments were eventually stolen from the bat computer by one of Batman's oldest villains, Ra's al Ghul.
While Batman helped to stop the assassin leader he showed little to no remorse for creating the plans in the first place arguing that any one of them could be a potential threat. Following this, Batman was kicked out of the Justice League after a vote from his peers.
