10 Heartbreaking Moments Comic Book Characters Realised THEY Were The Villain

3. The Flash - Flashpoint

Death of Captain America
DC Comics

The Flashpoint event saw the end of an era and introduced readers to the new world of the New 52.

Everything readers once knew about the world of DC was gone in a flash, and replaced by a different canon after the collapse and merger of the multiverse. Major changes happened, like Tim Drake no longer being Robin, and Superman wearing jeans for some reason.

And at the centre of all this chaos was Barry Allen. The Flash woke up one morning to find his mother, who had died when he was a child, was still alive. Not only was she alive, but Barry was no longer the Flash and had none of his powers.

After exploring this new timeline he soon discovered that the world was on the brink of collapse. Bruce Wayne had died in that alley, leaving a murderous Thomas Wayne to become the Batman. Wonder Woman and Aquaman were at war with one another to conquer the world.

Assuming that these were the doings of Eobard Thawne, the Reverse-Flash, Barry sought Wayne's help to regain his powers and stop the yellow menace.

But it turns out Thawne had nothing to do with this catastrophic new world, he was merely there to taunt Barry over his greatest failure.

Before the events of Flashpoint, Barry had traveled back in time to change one thing, to save his mum. The butterfly effect of that one difference caused the nightmare landscape they now stood in.
