10 Heartbreaking Times The Fantastic Four Broke Up

4. Ultimatum - Ultimatum: Fantastic Four Requiem (2009)

Fantastic Four Quit
Marvel Comics

In the Ultimate universe, Reed was about to propose to Sue before New York was hit by a tsunami created by Magneto. With millions dead and Sue left catatonic during the attack, Reed allied with Doctor Doom to find a way to defeat the Master of Magnetism.

When Sue awoke, she learned Reed abandoned her to fight Magneto. Furious, Sue dumped Reed and walked away from the team.

Since Johnny's father, Franklin, died in the tsunami, the Fantastic Four's youngest member left so he could deal with his grief. Shortly after, SHIELD offered the Thing a job, which he immediately accepted. With The Baxter Building destroyed and the Fantastic Four defunct, Reed had nowhere to turn to, forcing him to move back in with his parents.

Now, when the Fantastic Four usually part ways, they're back to normal after a few issues. But that's not the case here. The whole situation caused Reed to go mad, turning him into the world's - and then multiverse's - most dangerous supervillain.

After he tried to kill his former teammates, wiped out Germany, and annihilated dozens of universes, it was clear this incarnation of the Fantastic Four was finished for good.
