10 Heartwarming DC Comics Moments That Made Fans Cry

8. Thomas Wayne's Letter

Batman Annual 2 Selina Bruce
DC Comics

As Flashpoint - somewhat unsurprisingly - focuses a decent amount on the Flash, you'd presume that the most emotional storyline of the Flashpoint event would be based around him. Although the speedster gets his fair share of melancholy moments, it's actually Batman that ends up getting the most emotional moment in the series.

In one of Flashpoint's alternate timelines, Thomas Wayne ends up taking on the mantle of Batman, after his son Bruce Wayne is brutally murdered. Proving that a lack of good therapy is the one consistent trait in all timelines of Gotham, his wife Martha goes insane, cutting her face open and becoming that universe's Joker.

This backstory is particularly important to keep in mind, because it means that when Thomas ends up in the 'proper' DC universe, he is pretty much overcome upon seeing his deceased son alive, healthy, and a total badass.

Thomas ultimately sacrifices his life for Bruce - atleast, until some questionable retcons - but not before writing a heartfelt note praising his son. With both heroes clearly suffering from the loss of their family members, seeing them both connect and bond is nothing short of incredibly heartwarming.
