10 Heartwarming Marvel Moments That Made Fans Cry
6. Iceman Comes Out As Gay - All New X-Men
One of the most interesting aspects to the X-Men universe - and one of the few things the movies zeroed in on that was totally the right call to make - is that being a mutant and being LGBTQ+ are more than a little similar to each other. However, if the comics and movies actually wanted to really zero in on this, they would have to take the logical next step: actually make one of them gay.
And so came All New X-Men #40, wherein Iceman's past and future confronted each other (because X-Men) and future Bobby Drake had some very interesting information for his younger self. The talk actually goes a lot better than you would think, seeing as how the story arcs leading up to this had been hinting that Bobby had probably known this for some time now, and just needed himself to confirm it.
It also more than explains his oddly distant relationship with his female coworkers and hyper-masculine tendencies. These being long established character traits about Bobby, fans had been speculating that he was gay for quite some time, so it only made sense to the writing team to make him their first gay X-Man.
It's an emotionally resonant scene, and frankly, one that was long overdue.
