10 Horror Comics You Must Read If You Love The Walking Dead

Not for the faint of heart, Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows' Crossed imagines a very different kind of zombie apocalypse from that of The Walking Dead. When the people become infected with a mystery virus which drives them violently insane (facial scarring turning them into 'the crossed'), the world quickly falls to pieces.

While Robert Kirkman never could be accused of shying away from the dark stuff, Crossed takes apocalyptic atrocities to another level. Following a group of survivors as they attempt to escape the cities, the first book tramples all taboos from child murder to explicit rape sequences. And somehow, it only gets worse in the subsequent books, after Garth Ennis stops writing.

Clearly, Crossed isn't for everyone (or anyone). But for those masochistic souls who found themselves unable to look away from the violence and depravity of The Walking Dead's universe, this is the evolution of that.

Crossed is unflinchingly nihilistic, deeply unpleasant, and very upsetting.
