10 Horror Superheroes Who Give Villains Nightmares

7. Swamp Thing

Spawn character
DC Comics

But while Hex may appear as a monster to those he hunts, there's nothing quite like a true blue monster to get things back on course. So let's look at one of the most iconic of comic books' monsters: Swamp Thing.

At first, it was believed that Swamp Thing was scientist Alec Holland, who became Swamp Thing after being blown to bits into a swamp with a bunch of experimental chemicals.

However, after a long and frankly horrifying series of events (Alan Moore comic, remember) it was discovered that Swamp Thing only THOUGHT he was Alec due to him dying in the same swamp that Swamp Thing crawled out of causing his memories to be grafted onto Swamp Thing's developing brain.

His humanity having turned out to be a total lie, Swamp Thing has only become less and less forgiving (not that he was all that forgiving to begin with) when it comes to his enemies. If you threaten the sanctity of The Green, then Swamp Thing is not too far behind you. And you aren't long for this world.
