10 Horror Superheroes Who Give Villains Nightmares

4. Spawn

Spawn character
Image Comics

Moving on from a hero who's only really scary to his enemies, to one that scares even his best friends. But then, you'd be pretty scary too if you looked like leftover bits of bacon fused together and started walking around and sounded like Goliath from Gargoyles gurgling asphalt.

Spawn was the spearhead title of the original run of Image comics, made by Todd "I ticked off Neil Gaiman all by myself" McFarland. His whole deal, if you aren't aware, is being an undead mercenary burned to a crisp by his employer, and now out for revenge.

He gets this revenge by generally scaring the daylights out of everyone he comes across. From mobsters, to corporate bigwigs, to random cyborg assassins, and everyone in between.

Spawn has no mercy for you if you stand in his way. He'll not only kill you, but wipe you off the map in a way that would make the powers that be jealous. In short, do not mess with Spawn if you want to get off with your head still attached to your body.

And yet he's nowhere near as unnecessarily brutal as the next guy.
