6. The Comedian (Watchmen)
Edward Morgan Blake walks the fine line between anti hero and all out bad guy as his alter ego The Comedian fails time and time again to tow the line. He's an ultra-violent war veteran, a member of the most elite force of superheroes in his universe and a rapist. In Before the Watchmen it is revealed that The Comedian got his start in 'crime fighting' at the tender age of 16 not because he wanted to right the wrongs of society but because of his sadistic love of violence and causing harm to others. This makes him a very dangerous character to deal with. At no point during the entire Watchmen continuity is he shown as a sympathetic character that could be reasoned with or weakened by emotion. In fact the dangerous nihilist has been described as the only character in the Watchmen universe who is almost totally unlikeable. This gives him an edge over people like Marv and Jesse Custer in that he is incapable of caring enough for another human being to allow himself to be compromised. We also know that despite being a man of at least 60 he is still incredibly tough and more than capable of looking after himself. Fancy getting beaten up by a grandad? Bring it on whipper-snapper!
