10 Idiotic Mistakes That Almost Ruined Spider-Man
6. Bringing Back Aunt May - Amazing Spider-Man #545
One More Day was not only a mistake for annulling the Peter/MJ marriage.
Aunt May is a character that has been depicted visually as rather elderly since her introduction. Following that, there have also been a number of occasions in which she has been close to death. There was one time she even seemed to peacefully pass away (though this was later revealed to be yet another of Norman Osborn's schemes).
Therefore, when May seemed to be finally allowed to rest after dying again, the general consensus was that it was about time - she had been a crutch to the character of Spider-Man for so many years. Then they brought her back and she became a crutch again.
As well as being a crutch for the title character, keeping May alive took away from another potential layer of relatability for Spider-Man, as everyone at some point will experience the passing of someone close to them. Removing the aforementioned touching, quiet end would be a greater crime (as it's far more relatable than death by assassination), were it not for the fact that this retcon also removed Peter's marriage and future child from existence.
In trying to keep Spider-Man relatable, Marvel instead did the exact opposite.
