Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably know all about AMC's The Walking Dead. The series is one of the most popular on television, but many viewers don't know it all came from a comic book published over at Image's Skybound Studios by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.

The TV show started out much like the book, but featured a number of changes and it has since diverged in many ways from the original story. When it comes to the comics, it's all about the characters, but at the very centre is and always will be Rick Grimes.

In the first collection titled Days Gone By, Grimes is introduced waking up in a hospital only to find the world ended thanks to a zombie apocalypse. He spends the first six issues looking for his wife and son outside Atlanta, Georgia.

The Walking Dead is beautifully illustrated in black and white, which helps to make the gore even more frightening. The ongoing series published more than 180 issues spread across 30 trade paperbacks you can read today!
