7. The Infinity Gauntlet

Justice League The Final Night
Marvel Comics

To correct a believed imbalance between life and death, Mistress Death resurrected the “Mad Titan” Thanos. who decided to reacquire the six Infinity Gems. After defeating several of the Elders of the Universe and the In-Betweener, the rogue achieved this goal and assembled the Infinity Gauntlet.

The Silver Surfer confronted Thanos and the Titan trapped him in the Soul Gem. Escaping with the aid of Adam Warlock, the Surfer went to Earth, warned Doctor Strange and told him to gather Earth’s heroes. Enraged at the apparent rejection of Mistress Death, Thanos destroyed half the life in the universe. After both the heroes of Earth and several cosmic entities failed to defeat him, Thanos separated his astral form from his body to replace the cosmic entity Eternity. Nebula took the gauntlet and banished Thanos to interstellar space, but he was saved by Doctor Strange.

While in the Soul Gem, Warlock realized that Thanos believed himself unworthy of the power. The Titan agreed to help the heroes oppose Nebula and he tricked her into restoring the universe. From inside the Soul Gem, Adam created disharmony between the gems and caused Nebula to have to abandon the Gauntlet. Thanos apparently died in an explosion, and Adam Warlock took the Gauntlet and returned the heroes to Earth. Two months later, he found Thanos on a distant planet, living a contemplative life as a farmer.
