10 Insane Alternate Versions Of The X-Men You Won't Believe Exist

9. Jean Grey And Wolverine Get Married, Old And Fat

Marvel Comics

On the other end of the spectrum we go to Earth X, another of those dystopian futures that superhero comics seem to be so fond of. It's like they don't want their characters to be happy or something.

Anyway, in theory, this series sees Wolverine getting everything he ever wanted, in that he finally bested Cyclops for the love of Jean Grey, the two married, and settled down. And promptly became redneck stereotypes, with Logan sitting on his fat arse in front of the TV and Jean being an equally overweight, put-upon wife. Which is actually one of the more normal outcomes for characters in Earth X.

Whilst slumped in his La-Z-Boy like a rounder, hairier Joey or Chandler, Wolvie claims he can't get drunk or fat because of his mutant healing factor, which is evidently untrue. And which he knows deep down, because when he gets the call from Captain America and his fellow heroes to help defend the planet from the villainous skull, he uses his being out of shape as an excuse to... continue being out of shape.

Disgusted, Jean leaves him, not being able to fight herself due to her - and all over telepaths on the planet - having genuinely lost her powers not long after entering into holy matrimony with the Best There Is At Whatever He Used To Do. Not before, that is, revealing that she was actually Madeline Pryor, a clone of Jean Grey created by Mr Sinister. Which as break ups go, is a pretty awesome mic drop moment. Especially to a balding Wolverine in an "I'M WITH STUPID" t-shirt.
