Everyone knows the story. Odin battles the Frost Giants on Jotunheim and, after eons of battle, defeats King Laufey. He takes Loki back to Asgard and raises him as his own son. But what if that's not how it ended?

Another form Marvel's brilliant 'What If...' series, this 2018 comic turns the whole concept on its head, by having Laufey kill the All-Father and, after turning up on Asgard, taking Thor and Freyja back to his home world with him. Here he raises the boy as his own and, even though the story has a twist, the outcome is pretty much the same.

Loki is still an outcast, as Laufey takes Thor to his heart better than his own child, and this leads to an inevitable rift between the two. But Loki finds solace in Freyja, who is imprisoned in the dungeon, and over the years they become firm friends.

With his help, she escapes, and the two head to the Bifrost, where they are found by Thor and Laufey. A battle ensues which sees Loki exact revenge on his father and Thor, unknowingly, kill his own mother.

Allowed to escape by Thor, Loki moves to Earth and lives out his life with a family of his own.
