The What If..? comics were a great way for the writers and artists of Marvel Comics to throw away all that they had created and try out new and interesting ideas. Many of the books were done as fan-service in answer to the reader's questions, and in one instance, they involved the creators themselves.

In What If...? #11, a particularly interesting take on the Fantastic Four played out in a story titled, "What if the original Marvel Bullpen had become the Fantastic Four?" That's right, the team concept for this particular What If...? scenario was all about the people behind the creation of the team itself!

Stan "The Man" Lee, Jack "King" Kirby, Sol Brodsky (Marvel's then-vice president), and secretary Flo Steinberg received a mysterious box that bathed the talented creators with cosmic rays! Instead of their comic book creations, they became the Fantastic Four!

The comic book creators-turned comic book characters banded together to fight against evil while simultaneously chronicling their adventures in the pages of the Fantastic Four comic book. It may have been done in 1978, but this book was the most meta comic ever made, and it was truly insane!
