10 Insane Alternative Versions Of The Fantastic Four You Won't Believe

7. The Fearsome Four

Fin Fang Four
Marvel Comics

The Fantastic Four assembled to become a superhero team in the Marvel Universe due to their unique circumstances. The comic managed to establish many of the norms that would remain in four-person team-ups since its inception, so a brainy lead, his love-interest, a hothead, and a tank became the typical roster.

That certainly worked for the Fantastic Four, and many of the four-person teams that followed kept their rosters similarly stacked, but then there's the Fearsome Four. This team was completely different from the FF, and a good part of that was due to how it formed out of necessity.

The Fearsome Four came into being as a result of the "Fear Itself" crossover event. They found that they had to work together to keep Psycho-Man from gaining control over Man-Thing, who was undergoing a severe case of fear-overload at the time. The most unusual aspect of the Fearsome Four isn't what brought them together - it's the roster.

The leader of the team is none other than Howard the Duck. He's helped out by She-Hulk, Nighthawk, and Frankenstein's Monster. They ended up fighting against alternate reality heroes to confront their own fears, which helped them stop Man-Thing from destroying reality.
