Marvel and DC have been battling one another for dominance over the comic book market for the better part of a century, and while a great deal of money is involved in this "fight," it's been mostly cordial. Case in point, the two publishers came together in the '90s to create Amalgam Comics.

The point of Amalgam, which served as an imprint for both publishers, was to combine and reimagine the heroes and villains from each respective universe into a new one. To make this happen, characters like Superman and Captain America were reimagined into a single person called Super-Soldier.

The Fantastic Four wasn't immune to the amalgamation of its characters and those of DC. Around the same time Marvel put out its first FF comic, DC published the Challengers of the Unknown, so combining those two teams was pretty much a given when Challengers of the Fantastic #1 was released in 1997.

The team's leader was Prof, a combination of Reed Richards and Professor Haley. Ace was Susan Storm and Ace Morgan, Red was the combination of Johnny Storm and Red Ryan, while Rocky was the amalgamation of Ben Grim and Rocky Davis. There were twenty-three characters in total, all combinations of people associated with the FF and those close to the Challengers of the Unknown.
